Yoga Practice

What is Yoga?

Yoga means 'union' to unite mind body and soul. Through self discipline and mindfulness practitioners achieve numerous health benefits that extend past the physical body.

There are many different types of yoga practices, each with a unique approach and focus. Join us weekly here in Gibraltar at the rock tai chi centre by Wellington front. These are a few of the yoga programs we have held in the past:

Yoga flow

A mix of different styles of yoga such as, hatha & vinyasa.

It is a type of yoga that focuses on the connection between breath, movement, and the mind.

Move mindfully through the power of yoga flow, a flowing, energising yet relaxing class that will boost you up and also calm you down

Yin yoga

Yin or "receptive" yoga is a gentle class that focuses on long held postures to access & heal the connective tissues, joints and move blocked energy.

Holding positions for long periods allows you to slow down mental activity and gives allows for deeper introspection to notice all of the connections within your own body. (Heart chakra Sound bowl included).

Yoga outdoors

When the weather permits, we like to take our practice outdoors so we may get some fresh air whilst we exercise.

Some of our favorite venues are El Quarry at Camp Bay or the beach at Santa Margarita. Come and join our community, lets push each other to improve.

What should I expect?

"Yoga is a martial art you practice against yourself" - Joe Rogan, the JREpodcast:

  • Holding Yoga poses: Every session will be a flowing from one position to the next with the objective of achieving a state of flow with your body, due to the nature of yoga, most of these movements will focus on achieving full range of motion in the long run.

  • Collective meditation: Yoga is a practice that aims at controlling ones own mind as well as the body. Collective meditation is a good way to still the senses and draw attention internally.

  • Breathing techniques: Most of yoga focuses on achieving and maintaining poses. Once you are able to control your breathing you will be more able to supply your muscles with much needed oxygen. Aside from improving your yoga, mastering your breath work is a great way to control anxiety and stress.

  • Yoga artifacts: We will sometimes bring instruments into our yoga practice such as singing bowls or guitars in order to enhance the experience.

In general yoga is a path to self mastery, going into complex yoga poses and asanas forces the practitioner to be mindful of their body and how they are moving. By doing this the individual achieves a state of calm in the mind which can be used for introspection.

Disconnect to Self-Connect

"It didn't take long to feel the effects that yoga with Samantha has had on myself. After a few of her sessions she's helped with my sciatic pain and piraphormis syndrome I had attained from a training injury, as well as my supluxing shoulders. After a couple weeks the benefits continued, having a positive effect on my long term insomnia and has made it easier to manage.
Samantha's down-to-earth character and patience in teaching the practice encouraged me, as a beginner, to continue such a beneficial practice that would normally be out of my comfort zone.
I can easily say yoga with Samantha has had a great impact on my health and would recommend anyone to give her sessions a go and see what it could do for them." - Silva Dion
